RSS/Atom Feed Provider

The RSS/Atom Feed provider lets you subscribe to web feeds for news, blogs, podcasts, and YouTube channels. New entries appear as messages in your channelBar menu, keeping you informed without leaving your workflow.


Feed Configuration

Each channel can have multiple feeds. The following settings are available per feed:

Setting Description
Feed URL RSS or Atom feed URL (required)
Custom Title Override the feed’s original title
Polling Interval How often the feed is checked (default: 900 seconds / 15 min)
Image Mode How to display the feed image: Original, Favicon, or Custom

A default polling interval can be set for all feeds in the channel.


Supported Feed Types

  • RSS 2.0
  • Atom
  • YouTube – automatic channel resolution from handle, URL, or channel ID
  • Podcasts – with built-in audio player

Note: YouTube channel resolution requires explicit consent on first use.


Podcast Features

channelBar includes a built-in podcast player with the following options:

  • Show Podcast Status – display currently playing status in the menu bar
  • Click Controls Player – click on episode to play/pause

Download configuration per feed:

Setting Options
Mode Default, Streaming, or Download
Episode Count Number of episodes to keep (1–10 or unlimited)
Auto-Download New Automatically download new episodes
Silence Trimming Default, Enabled, or Disabled
Playback Speed Custom playback speed (e.g., 1.0, 1.5, 2.0)

Feed Image Modes

  • Original – display the feed’s own image
  • Favicon – use the feed source’s website favicon
  • Custom – provide a custom image URL

Each mode can have a fallback. Favicon URL and custom image URL can be configured per feed.


OPML Import and Export

Import and export feed lists in OPML 2.0 format for easy migration between feed readers. Export includes feed URLs, titles, and folder structure.


Activation

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Channels and select a channel
  3. Navigate to Providers
  4. Enable RSS/Atom Feed
  5. Add feed URLs
